Do you get a beep or anything to indicate you have changed
something?

I got a front loading Frigid Aire a few years ago. It has a dial with a hard
stop to the left and a hard stop to the right. It's easy to know that normal
is six clicks to the right after rotating the dial all the way to the left.
There are also half a dozen buttons to tweak things like temperature and so
on. Pressing the buttons change the display to indicate the new temperature.
You can learn to press it twice to change from cold to hot, or you can just
use the default settings you get from using the dial. There's a start/stop
button and so on. It's all very usable. Note, I got this a few years ago, so
I don't know if it's still available, but I did notice that just a year ago,
the Frigid Aire dryers had the same type of controls.

BTW, I didn't get the Frigid Aire dryer. I don't recall the brand I got, but
it again has a dial you use to set for loads like normal, heavy and so on.
Again, you can change some settings by pressing on some raised bubbles, or
you can just take the defaults and press the bubble to start. Again, it's
completely usable, and I can figure out the brand later, if anyone is
interested.
