I will let you know how it works out for me! But it may take me some time to
figure how to turn on the speech.

Hello Mike. When you get your new phone, will you let me know what features
are truly accessible? I am interested in how well the phone works for a
blind person because I really need one that is a little more accessible than
what I currently have.

I have a Samsung Array from Sprint. It has voice control and I am able to
hear the menus when I press the menu button. I can read text messages.
Although it has both a qwerty keyboard as well as a numberic key pad, the
speech doesn't work on either of them.

The phone rings twice and I can hear the number or name (for the ones I had
someone sighted to program for me since that feature isn't accessible(. So
if I miss a call and the caller decides not to leave a message, I simply
have no idea of who called unless I can get someone to read that for me.

Yes, Sprint says that the Kyocera Kona is $209 but there is a promotion for
a limited time that requires a 2-year contract and you can get the phone for
$50 which you can get back by sending in for the rebate. I would really
like to switch to another company because most of the time the technicians
have little or no knowledge of what features are accessible nor can they
assist a blind person who calls them for help.

I am going to find if Virgin Mobile is available here in Richmond but I
wonder if the reception is any better than Sprint. It is often difficult to
use my cell phone service in my home and that really can be a problem if I
am unable to get to my home phone or, as was the case a few months ago, when
a storm blows down a tree limb which knocked down the telephone line causing
my service to go out. And I was especially upset when I tried to dial 911
for the police when a crazed girl tried to come into my home one night after
midnight.

So please let me know how the phone works for you. Thank you.

Anita

I just ordered it from Virgin mobile & the total was $17.03. I tried 3 times
& I was not sure I got it. But I got an email saying thank you for your
order from Virgin mobile. I will check out the phone before I set a plan up
with them.
