I am just going to throw in my two cents on this conversation, for whatever it's worth....
I have, at various times in my life, used Verizon, straight Talk, and Sprint.
In my experience- Straight Talk is a great option. It worked very well for me, the reception was great, the phone was reliable, the company was reliable and the prices were great. It's a great option if you don't have good credit, as there is no contract so no deposit or anything. You get unlimited talk and text and a good amount of data that ends up coming out to around $50. They also have cheaper plans, if you are not going to use you're phone that much.
The only problem I ever encountered was when I needed to get a detailed bill for some legal matters. I called customer service and asked them for this, as they do not send out bills, since it is pre-paid or pay-as-you-go. They said they had to have documentation sent to them from a government official or lawyer saying that I had to have the detailed statement for my phone number.
That's the only issue, which is a rare occurrence, but if you like to have the detailed bill, you won't with Straight talk.
Verizon was also great. They had the best selection of phones, the best customer service, and the best reception of any of these three companies. However, they are by far, in my experience, the most expensive. Sometimes they have promotions on their phones or things like that. But you have to be aware of what you're monthly plan will cost, insurance, and any extra billing features.
Sprint, which I have now, is good. But I am on a family plan though. My portion of the bill is only $60 for unlimited everything... Including data with my iphone. I still have my iphone 4, that i have had for a couple years. I believe it was $99 with a two year contract at the time. I have no problems with Sprint, the reception is not what it was with verizon, but it is definitely not bad at all.
So anyway, these are just my experiences.
