Andy,

Thanks for all of the info. I do think it is important to get it set up for
making and receiving calls first. I really appreciate your advice.

I will keep you up-to-date on my progress.

Anita

If you have the time, there is an informative listserv for iPhone users.
It is called VIPHONE. To subscribe, go to:

http://groups.google.com and search for VIPHONE

Be aware that this is a high traffic group with over 100 messages per day,
but it is a wonderful place to get help, as most of the knowledgeable iPhone
gurus are there.

The National Braille Press has some books for people getting started with
the iPhone. These are a bit dated because they haven't been updated for IOS
7, the latest operating system, but the vast majority of what's there is
still useful.
www.nbp.org

Jonathan Mosen has recently released a tutorial textbook called IOS 7
Without the Eye. It is especially written for blind iPhone users, and is
available in several digital formats that can be read using your iPhone, a
digital book player like the Victor Stream, or can be read on a PC. Go to
http://mosen.info

There is a very informative web site www.applevis.com

There you will find reviews of apps, podcasts that you can download or
listen to, and an informative blog.

This should get you started, but the important thing is to think of the
iPhone like a large pizza. You aren't going to eat it all at once, you will
eat it slice by slice, and you should go about learning how to use your
device in the same way. If it is your only cell phone, you might want to
start out by learning how to make and receive phone calls, how to set up
your contacts, etc. If you plan to do text messaging and Email perhaps that
would come next. If you break things down into individual tasks, and learn
each task before you go on to the next one, this will minimize your
frustration. Enjoy your iPhone.

Andy

I was able to get speech going, but I don't know where to go to do anything
else on the phone. If there are tutorials I can access from the internet
that will help that would be good.

I realize that most people may not have the time to walk me through getting
set up but I have read some of he threads froom timt-to-time regarding
Iphones.

Hey Anita, I assumed you made a typo and were saying you hadn't gotten
speech going. If speech is working, what is it you're looking for help
with?

Thanks,

Jim,
