[Electronics-talk] coffee makers

Hey Susan; all I have is Bailey's; what would be nice right now is an Irish
coffee.
The coffee grinder I described earlier is a burr grinder; thanks for
reminding me, as I didn't say and not everyone knows there is a difference.
If you could find out what model and brand you have, I bet you
could get a new carafe for it.

Hi, listers:
This has been a fun discussion to follow. Serena, your Hamilton Beach
sounds like a neat coffeemaker!
A few years ago a talking coffeemaker was available and we loved ours! We
couldn't find a replacement pot for it though. Does anyone know if those
are still available? I can't remember the brand, unfortunately.. I got
mine from Hemmacher Schlemmer.
If you get a grinder, Serena, get a burr grinder. They're a little more
expensive but they grind more precisely. Burr refers to the mechanism in
the grinder; it is not the brand name of the grinder.
Happy coffee drinking, everybody! We're in a snowstorm here; a good time
for a good cup of coffee! I just wish I had a little Kahlua to put in mine
at the moment! (smile!) Cheers!
Susan

Yes, I'll give you the info when I have someone home to read off the name
and model. Surprisingly the only cleaning is just rinsing each part off. I
brought the trash can right up next to the coffee maker so as not to spill
the grinds when I remove them.

I would like to know, Drew; I think I want one when the Keurig dies.
I didn't think of being more steps with a coffeemaker like that one,
but it makes sense; if you don't clean it well, then, it probably doesn't
grind the coffee properly.

Darla,
All of these suggestions have helped me out a lot. The coffee maker I have
is one that grinds the coffee first. There are several steps involved with
the cleaning and several more to prepare the coffee. I think that with a
little practice it will become second nature for me. It is also
programmable, but my dad just cleans it out and puts the fresh coffee in
each morning. The buttons are actual buttons and there is only one button to
press to start the whole cycle. I'll get you the make and model info later
if you want. Take care
Drew

Hi Serena,
I hate coffeemakers that have you pour through the slots; never
could do it without making a bit of a mess. Wish I had thought of the
funnel then.
I have a Keurig now; when it dies, I am considering a coffee maker
that grinds the beans before brewing.
Wow; lots of coffee drinkers, eh?

Mine is a Hamilton Beach that I recently got for Christmas. It has a pot on
one side and a single serve component on the other. The filter baskets come
out easily and the button to start the brewing process is a round button
that's easy to find. I'm sure there are other features to it that I haven't
figured out yet but so far it meets my needs.
Also, Tracy's right, it does take a bit of prep work to make coffee and a
bit to clean up. With my old coffee maker I used to use a funnel to pour
the water in to it because I kept pouring water on to to the counter. If
the issue is that you haven't done it a lot all I can say to do is practice
and keep practicing. I'm totally blind also and it took me years before I
could make a decent cup of coffee. My dad is sighted and has been making
coffee for years and still makes a huge mess.
If there's a touch screen involved maybe there's a way to mark it with puffy
paint or Braille markings. Good luck and happy coffee drinking. :) Serena
