[Electronics-talk] Telework/work from home/work virtually/telecommute?

Hi,
Oh wow, techy stuff is beyond me. Airline reservations might be a
possibility. I worked for two different hotel reservations companies back in
the 90s, but they pushed people way too hard and were total perfectionists.

I think part of the problem is getting rehab or someone from the company (or
both) out to set things up on a home computer so that the company's system
is accessible. And if there are tech issues, which there always are, it
would be more difficult for someone from the company to come out to
someone's home to fix things. At the hotel reservation centers, the tech
person was always there, on call. We used to kid him about how he ought to
just bring in his sleeping bag, haha.
Thanks
Lauren

Some technical companies allow employees to work from home. Canonical, for
example, is a company which contributes code to Ubuntu--a Linux
distribution--and sells products and services around Ubuntu, has almost no
offices and almost every employee works remotely from home. Some
organizations in IBM also allow or even encourage employees to work from
home. Marissa Mayer made news when she changed the policy at Yahoo
eliminating the option for employees to work from home. If you have or want
a software engineering degree or background then there will be some work
from home options for you.
