[Electronics-talk] Programmable coffeepot?

Sorry Tracy, I meant to also answer this part of your question. I'm sure
I saw it discussed on a mailing list, and maybe even this one. I
remember a discussion on how silly and gimmicky it was and how a blind
person could brew coffee just as good and just as easily in a $40 coffee
pot that didn't talk to you. I'm not denying this, I'm just pointing
this out because this is why I think I first saw it discussed on a list
like this. I definitely didn't go searching for it. It must have also
crossed my radar at a time when we needed a new coffee pot anyway and
around a time people were looking to buy me something, like my birthday
or Christmas.
I might have also seen it mentioned in an issue of the Flying Blind or a
similar newsletter. BTW, I just did a google for this coffee pot and
added the word "blind" to the search. I'm seeing that
* it was sold by MaxiAids and Independent Living Aids, and
* it was discussed in Fred's Head, blind-cooks on NFBNet and Blind Bargains.
I hope this helps somewhat!
