[Electronics-talk] Talking Pill from Walgreens

Hi,
Kaiser Permanente's pharmacy has what they call "talking vials" that they
record right there and the pill bottle sits on top sort of inside but not
much.
I didn't need them after one time for each med because I wrote down my
prescription numbers and I'm fortunate that my pills are all different
shapes and sizes so I can tell them apart. They seemed receptive to giving
me the talking vials and, in one case, they sent an unrecorded one with me
to take to another of their pharmacies to pick up a med that they didn't
have at my pharmacy.
Thanks
Lauren

HiCheese and all,

There are currently two solutions out there, the script talk from Envision
America and the talking pill device from Accessameds.com. My wife has been
using the script talk with Wallmart mail order! Having this device has made
her life much easier when keeping track of her meds. Since she had her
heart attack, she is on more meds. These new meds were being obtained
locally and they are still being adapted for her. Some of these involve
cutting pills in half! It is difficult keeping track of this mess till she
can get an accessible solution attached tothe new med bottles! With both of
these solutions, data is entered onto the device or label, it isn't read by
a person live! The difference between the two solutions is the script talk
is a device which reads the labels from the bottle or box. One must have
this device with them in order to use it! Access-a-medshas their device
attach to the bottle or box I suppose! If one is taking ten medications,
they would have this device for each bottle or box. Perhaps the pen friend
could work if one took very few meds. The script talk or access a med would
be much faster when labeling lots of medication! Yes! There is much
resistance from pharmacies to incorporate these solutions! My wife has
been trying to get the talking pill from our Wall Greens locally and so far,
no go! If your pharmacy doesn't want to incorporate this technology, go to
one which does so!

The website for envision America is:
http://www.envisionamerica.com
I think the other site is:
http://www.access-a-med.com
Simply google this if it isn't quite right! Both solutions are at no
additional cost to the user!

>>> Walgreens Pharmacy has a new device called the talking pill. This is a
device to assist blind and visually impaired individuals so they will know
what prescription they are taking if they are unable to read the bottles.
The device is about the size of a bottle cap and it attaches to the bottom
of the bottle or box of prescription medication. The buttons have dots on
them and the button with a single dot is the talk button and the button with
two dots is a timer button. The pharmacist records the information such as
the patient's name, prescription number, physician who ordered the
prescription and the instructions on how to take the medication. The
pharmacist can also record information such as which medications if any it
will interact with. It's not a synthesizer computer voice and it's the
actual person who is filling the medication and it's their own voice. You
can also stop and start the information if necessary. If you call in a
pirscription, then let the call center know that you want the talking pill
to be placed on your bottles and you will have to sign a vouture to get this
device for free. If you know anyone who is need of this device please spread
the word!
