[Electronics-talk] kitchen appliances

When looking for appliances first see if you can find knobs and dials that
you find accessible. You might need to have some Hi-Marks or other tactile
marks. When you cannot find knobs that you can work with, then you want a
touch panel that is NOT dynamic. A dynamic control panel will have multiple
functions for many spots on the control panel depending on what is touched.
A non-dynamic screen means that the control panel is flat and smooth, but
only one function or action is assigned to any given spot on the control
panel. You can put braille or other tactile marks on all of the keys, or on
only the keys you use most frequently.

Some manufacturers will provide you with braille labels. You will need to
call the customer service line to inquire if they do it for the model
appliance you are purchasing. You can also use dymo tape to create your own
labels. If you do not have a family member or friend who can help you with
labeling/marking your appliance, then look into getting help from your local
Vocational rehab office, volunteers from a church, Sororities and
Fraternities from a local university, high school students or scout troop
who need community service hours, civic organizations such as Lions
HTH,
Annette
club, or 55 and over communities might have an organization for matching
residence up with volunteer opportunities.

Dear list,

Doing a kitchen remodel in my house and am wondering what to look for in
terms of getting new accessible appliances. I will be getting a new gas
stove with the oven under. Also will be getting a new dish washer and
microwave. The microwave witll be one that is built in over the stove. Also
wondering if anyone has experience with microwave/ convection oven combos
and how they work. Thanks so much!!
