[Electronics-talk] kitchen appliances

Gerald,

I would agree with you that getting help from an utility company in New York
City or any other large metropolitan area is unlikely. However, this is an
option in some rural areas.

Why would my local utility, the much maligned Con Edison, offer to send a
volunteer to my home to help me label my microwave oven when they have
absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with purchasing or installing it? The
only assistance they offer is free phone assistance to explain why your
utility bill is so outrageously high. To my knowledge, they have no
volunteers on staff to assist blind customers with labeling their kitchen
appliances, which, again, they have nothing to do with. Now, they won't
even help you if you smell gas in your kitchen, and instead advise you to
call 911 and report it to the police. If there are any gas and electric
utilities that will send volunteers to the homes of blind customers to help
them label their appliances, they certainly aren't in New York City.

Gerald
