Check out the 4 in 1 talking Super Clock available from Future Aids for 
$19.99 with free shipping.  This is an absolutely terrific little clock.  In 
addition to announcing the time and date, this clock can be used as a 
countdown timer or count-up stopwatch.  It has an alarm with three different 
alarm sounds plus a vibrating mode.  It fits comfortably in the palm of your 
hand or in a shirt pocket, and even has a pop-out stand, so that you can 
rest it upright on the kitchen counter.  All the settings are spoken out 
loud, so it is very easy to adjust.  It has three buttons concealed behind a 
cover below the display.  When you press and hold the first button, the 
clock enters menu mode, and you can then toggle through all the settings, 
which are spoken in a very loud and clear female voice.  So for instance, if 
you wanted to use the countdown timer, you would press the first button 
repeatedly until you hear the clock announce "countdown timer".  You then 
press the third button repeatedly to set the countdown time and the second 
or middle button to start, stop and reset it.  It also has an hourly 
announcement feature.  I'm hearing impaired and keep this little guy in the 
pocket of my pajama top to wake me up in the morning with its vibrating 
alarm.  And I use the countdown timer while I'm working out on my exercise 
bike.  The rest of the time, I keep it on my desk with its pop-out stand. 
Best of all, it runs on two "AAA" batteries which are easily replaceable. 
Every other countdown timer I am familiar with uses AG13 button cell 
batteries which are sometimes hard to replace or are not easy to find and
