[Electronics-talk] Portable Wi-fi Hotspots

Hi All:

I haven't posted on here in a while, but thought I might ask.

I recently gave up wireless service with ATANDT on account of cost, and also impatience with my i'phone. I'm sorry. While I like to be on the cutting edge of technology and be using the same things that sighted people use, I just find the touch pad too nerve-racking, and Siri not really reliable. I am still hanging onto my 4s, and will continue to learn how to use it. Some day, I may upgrade back to an i'phone on my current carrier Credo Mobile. For now, I'm using a small phone called a Verve. It is like some of those Nokia phones, but it speaks most functions. It has a pop-out keyboard, which I must say I find more efficient for writing text messages than either using the touch pad or having to use my U2 Mini via Bluetooth.

The one drawback of the Verve is that it does not have Wi-fi capability. Along those lines, it of course cannot be used as a personal wi-fi hotspot. This is one feature which I have to admit I knew I would miss when giving up using an i'phone. I did not think it would be much of a problem. However, sometimes at work, the Wi-fi service in the office is rather weak. There are times on long bus rides where I need to send and receive E-mail. It appears that the Verve does not do this. Even if it did, I prefer to use my u2 Mini to do this.

Credo Mobile operates over the Sprint Wireless Network. That being said, I realize that if I want a Hotspot, I will have to pay a little extra for it. I was wanting to know if there are any other devices out there other than i'phones which are portable which can provide me with a personal hotspot alternative? Are there some over others which are easier to access without sight? Or, is my only solution to try my hardest to master the i'phone and upgrade to a 5s or 6s?

And, here's another question. Are there any devices out there which are classified as "smart" which have an onboard Querty Keyboard as opposed to a touch pad?

Thanks!

Chaim
