And I bet it's not just blind people who have said that. Not everybody is
into tech gadgets, or knows how to use them, whether they can see or not.
So you are probably not alone. Pam.

There are a couple restaurants near me that I frequent including California
pizza kitchen that use these digital pay machines at each table. I find it
no problem to let the waitor or waitress know that I am blind and would like
to pay the old way whether I'm doing it by credit card or cash. I've never
gotten any response other than okay. I don't think these new pay methods are
a problem or will be in the future as long as you communicate with the wait
staff.

You can still order the old fashioned way at Applebee's but the change comes
when it is time to pay the bill.

At least with Appleby's , you can check out their menu online in advance so
that you have some idea what you want to order before you eat there. I ate
lunch at a nearby Appleby's in the Bronx about a month ago, and they still
took orders the old-fashioned way: by waiter. Before my visit, I checked
the menu first online and decided what I wanted to order so that I would not
have to ask the waiter for help reading off the various menu choices.
Apparently, no touchscreen tablets at this location yet.

Gerald
