At first I tried setting mine up using the web.  Then, I went to the phone app and connecting to my Wi-Fi was fairly intuitive.

I dare say that if she was having problems setting it up, it may have been because she wasn't reading the documentation or in the online forums.

Getting the echo on Wi-Fi takes a bit of trickery, but nothing that isn't well documented and accessible.
