The label maker is battery operated or can be plugged in to an electronic
outlet. It has a Perkins style keyboard. The label tape is automatically
advanced as you write, and I believe that there is no need to advance the
tape prior to cutting. Probably the biggest difference is that you can plug
a standard computer USB keyboard into the unit to produce the braille label.
The use of a QWERTY allows family members, teachers, employers and
co-workers to create labels easier and faster.

Yes, the price does appear to be high, but the cost of research, development
and production is high. It is the first major change in the area of braille
label makers in the more than 40 years that I have been aware of them. They
are selling a product that only has the potential of being sold to a small
segment of the population. In order for them to recuperate their financial
investment in a reasonable amount of time, the price is set higher than many
can afford. Does anyone remember the price of refreshable braille displays
when they first came out? Was it something like $10,000 to $20,000 for a 40
or 80 cell display? Through the end of tomorrow (September 30) you can
purchase the Perkins Mini 24 cell refreshable braille display for less than
$1900 including shipping.

It's so expensive because it has (as I understand it) a Perkins-style
keyboard and because it's electronic.

Yes I'm curious what exactly does this
labeler do and why is it so expensive?

Hi, I can't believe that a LabelMaker would cost $600 or more. How in the
world do they justify that price?
