[Electronics-Talk] perfect cell phone

Hi Sandra,

One idea you may consider is separating your phone needs from your web access needs. That is, I see you have a lot of phone recommendations in the responses here; and just as a phone, I'll throw in the Kyocera Virgin Mobile offers (it has talking menus, but it's really only usable as a basic phone). If you don't like it as a phone, perhaps you can find something that you do like as a phone.

Next, consider when and where you need apps or web access. My wife has decided to buy an Ipad for her web access (but only the wifi version), and then a very small phone for just her phone needs (probably the new Iphone SE). If she wants web access while she's out, and she doesn't have wifi near-by, she'll make the Iphone act as a hotspot (or you can buy separate mobile hotspot devices, or the Ipad does have various limitted data access plans if you buy one with a cell modem).

Perhaps you want a phone most of the time and therefore want buttons, but perhaps you would be willing to work with a touch screen for your web access, and so an Ipad or some tablet like it would be ok?

Just an idea,

Chip

Subject: [Electronics-Talk] perfect cell phone

I had been trying to avoid a description of my perfect ideal cell, because others have heard my whining before, but not because I particularly mind citing my requirements, so, hope no one minds my list, again:

--not necessarily in order of preference:
No touch screen, only tactile keys, for all functions; failing that, a tactile overlay for orientation
An easy-to-use interface
Easy and quick web access
Audible cues—TTS for functions and menus
Pleasant voice, preferably (though not necessarily) male
Very clear, though not loud, speech
No harsh sounds when functions are starting—I don’t mind some of what I hear from the Galaxies, but both the Nexus 5 and the IPhones are jarring to my Asperger’s hearing;
Not huge—5 inches or less
Not a feature phone, obviously—I want the functionality of a smartphone, with options for tactile as well as audible cuing, since I am not a good audio learner
