[Electronics-Talk] samsung tv with voice guide about setting the description

Not only that, but there is yet another consideration. IF the local stations are still using the old 639 language descripter set of standards, Jerold is correct. You cannot have description and spanish on at the same time due to the fact that there was no provision made in the 639 standards for description. However, there is a newer standard which some locals are starting to adopt. This is the AAC standard. Under the AAC standards, it is in fact possible to have both spanish and audio description carried at the same time because AAc encodding makes provision for multiple SAP channels at the same time and even SAP channels in 5.1 channel sound. I would also like to point out that, if you do choose to let your dish box feed your TV, it is through your dish box that you will both switch channels and select the SAP channel. In that case, you’ve got a problem unless the box can be made accessible. The reason this is so is that the TV will not translate menus from the box to you.

Sincerely, The Constantly Barefooted Ray,

Still a very happy Comcast XFinity Voice Guidance, Mac, Verizon Wireless iPhone7+ and Apple TV user!

Keep in mind that the FCC is likely to undergo major changes under the Trump administration, which favors less government regulation of big business.

You need to ensure that you have an HDMI cable running from the HDMI output on the back of your dish box in to one of the HDMI inputs on your TV. Now, make sure the inputs on your TV are set to receive from that HDMI cable. I garanntee that will fix it for you. Keep something in mind however. IF you do choose to go this rout, you may or may not have access to description because the owner of Dish Network is being a bit of an ass and refuses to carry it. So, you’d actually be better off going from a direct antenna and watching your locals like that. That’s the better option anyhow due to the fact that if you watch them that way, there is no data stripping involved like there is with Dish.

IF they’re on the ball, the ingeneer should be able to tell you whether or not SAP is carried on their channel. IF your market falls inside the top 60 markets in the country, carrying description is required. It used to be just the top twenty five: however, as of this past July, it became the top sixty.

>> Ray, I never considered either one of these points about the sap channel.. That's something I would have to find out about somehow. To be more specific, right now, both of these 2 new tvs we haven't hooked them up to dish which is what we have for tv service, so we watch the over the air tv channels with these tvs. Actually we did hook it up to the dish to see how it would be. we can't really use these tvs with our dish
>> service, somehow it doesn't recognize the dish service. We don't have the cox cable service which is in our area that has something very much like comcast does with the voice guide. I don't know how our tvs would work with a system like that since our tvs already has the voice guide in it. I'm so glad you pointed out about the sap channels, As I said I never considered that possibly it wouldn't broadcast with my local channels. I probably didn't explain that quite right. I Just took it for granted that I would be able to access the sap channel. I've had other tvs before that I probably could have gotten access to the describing, I didn't always have someone to assist me with it. With a tv like these, we can do that. So now somehow I've got to find out about the broadcasting of the sap channel. Again thanks for pointing that out.

>>> Bear in mind that although you may have correctly set the tV itself for description, you want to make sure the local stations in your market are actually carrying the SAP channel out of the transmitter. Some are, some still are not. IF you have your TV set up and hooked up to a cable box, this changes everything. Why? Because it now depends on two factors.
>>>
>>> 1. Are the local stations actually passing through the SAP channel?

>>> 2. Is your local cable company actually carrying the SAP channel that the local stations transmit?

So far the only thing that we haven't been able to set right is the description for the described shows. As far as we can tell everything that needs to be on is on, and on shows that are described so far we haven't heard the description unless there's something else we missed.Mike, I'm wondering if you tried to watch any described shows or watched any described shows yet? If anyone has any idea of something we've missed in setting the description up, please let us know. Thank you.
