Some vendors will allow you to pay bills by phone via an electronic
check from your bank. You can usually do this with credit card
companies, phone companies, and some utility companies. I can do this
for my credit cards, cable provider, cell phone carrier, and electric
and water provider. I cannot do it with my mortgage company or the gas
company.

I remember Wells Fargo used to offer Bill Pay via telephone.  I was
happy when my payees allowed free phone payments.
