I'm telling you that my cousin got it just fine.  She didn't have a problem. 
But the reason I asked was because other people were complaining that they 
did have problems.  As for other cable companies doing something, years ago 
when we called Cablevision, they didn't know anything about video 
description.  But recently on the sight, I see something about 
accessability, but I can't tell what it is.  I just haven't gotten around to 
calling them up and asking if they know anything more about the video 
description on the sap, and if they have, or are planning to have, an 
accessible cable box that can be used by a blind person.   Pam.

You have to remember that your cousin might have been speaking to someone
not in the United states. If that was the case, the person might not have
known what an accessible box is. At least Charter still has call centers in
the United states.

It is unfortunate that more & more call centers are being outsourced over
seas which makes it dificult @ times to communicate with them. Also, & I
realize this part is somewhat off topic, but for those of us out there who
have a lot of Telephone customer service experience, that those kind of jobs
are getting few & far between. I'm really surprised more cable companies
haven't tried to get on the band wagon & make the same kind of accessible
cable box.

Comcast already has this accessable box.  My cousin got it.  I told her
about it and she asked me for the information.  I asked her if she was
successful in getting it, and she said yes.  I asked her that, because some
people had said they were having trouble making the customer service people
understand what they were talking about.  She also told me that her husband
got her something like dragon naturally speaking for her computer.  Pam.

How are you able to set the cable box by phone? I had a problem with my
cable last week. I called Charter (a web site that is not accessible) & they
like most cable companies asked me what was on the screen. When I told them
I am totally blind & I cannot see the screen, they wanted to make an
appointment for a tech to come out. There was no way to set the cable box by
push buttons. Does anyone know when Comcast's audio box for the cable box
will be ready? I have a feeling that once Comcast gets that ready & it is a
feature one can get, other cable companieswill have to follow suit on this.
If they don't they will lose many blind people. Of course, Comcast isn't
availablein some areas.

I also agree with your idea Gerald as to the factcompanies should return to
regular buttons that we can use.

I have an even better idea.  Forget all this bluetooth and Internet
nonsense.  Why not make appliances with tactile buttons and switches like in
the good old days?  What a concept!!  The problem is that the design and
manufacture of appliances has largely been taken over by the Chinese who are
more interested in making cheap products than in making them universally
accessible.  And now that GE has agreed to sell its appliance business to
the Chinese electronics and appliance giant, Haier,appliance accessibility
is likely to get even worse.

Why not bypass bluetooth and make appliances accessible via the Internet.
If one can communicate with a fridge using a computer or smartphone, then
why not make it possible for one to set appliances the same way?
Now it may sound crazy, but if one doesn't have a computer or smartphone,
then they could use a landline like one can do to reset cable boxes and the
like.
