The battery in the NLS player is not user-accessible, and in fact, the NLS 
specifically warns users not to attempt to open the battery compartment, as 
service should be left to qualified technicians.

Try removing the battery and reinstalling it after a gentle wipe on the 
contacts
Since it's been sitting a while it's possible it's a little tiny bit of 
coding created on the contacts
