[Electronics-Talk] {Spam?} Printer Recommendations

Gerald,

Look up the customer support 800 number for Samsung, HP, Canon and Epson and contact them to start with. And see what you can find out from them. I do not think you have to turn off the wireless in order to have access to the direct connect of the USB. When you speak to the customer rep, explain to them that you are looking for a printer that has physically tactually discernable buttons, as well as the other features you are looking for. Of course you will not be able to find the printer you have been using, but there might very well be a modern model that can meet your needs, especially since you are not looking for an all in one. Yes, there might be some features that you will never use, so you can just ignore those.

HTH,
Annette

Annette

Apparently, from what I can determine, almost all current model printers now come with wireless capability, which adds a layer of complexity. It is possible that there may be inaccessible onscreen or LCD menus to navigate in order to deactivate this feature so that the printer can be connected directly to the computer with a USB cable. There is no way to tell for sure from the product description. So a current model HP printer may be very different than one that is ten years old. The same seems to be true of every other brand I have checked; they all have wireless capability and most have duplex printing, yet another complication I can do without which would make using the printer more difficult for someone who is totally blind. I just want to be able to connect the printer directly to my desktop computer and be able to print on one side, plain and simple. No wireless and no duplex printing wanted.

Gerald

I already checked EBay, and could not find a refurbished Samsung ML2010 for
sale, just one or two used ones, whose actual conditions might be highly
suspect at best, and therefore not worth considering. So the bottom line is
that if I wanted to buy a new printer, the chances are that I would need
sighted help to use it, right?

I think the only place Gerald is going to find a printer like, or similar to
the one he's looking for is on eBay.
Tom, I'm pretty sure your dinosaur can no longer be found, my friend.
Unless, that is, if you can find it on eBay.
