Thanks for the detailed description. It actually sounds rather stylish,
color-wise.
I've shared your review with my husband, who uses the IDMate most.

Hello Tracy.

I received my ID Mate Galaxy today. Having the Summit and Galaxy Side by
side, The Summit is definitely shorter than the Galaxy, but thicker. The
Galaxy is about 1 inch or 2 longer. The shape of the Galaxy, to me,
resembles a hairbrush. The handle that you hold is wide and flat, like the
handle of a hairbrush. The control buttons are on the top side of the
handle. On the underside, the part of the brush where the bristles would
be, is where the barcode reader is located. It is quite comfortable to
hold. I thought the Summit was comfortable also. I am told by a sighted
person that the Galaxy is a bluish-purple with light gray buttons. The
underside of the handle and the area where the buttons protrude are charcoal
gray. The buttons are the same as the Summit with one exception. There is
a select button in the middle of the triangular buttons for up and down.
Oh, there is a power button on top of the long rectangular mode button. To
me, the button seems sturdier on
the Summit then the Galaxy. I wish the power button and record button
were a little thicker on the Galaxy though. It has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
You can use a Bluetooth headset for when you are in noisy supermarkets. The
Wi-Fi connects to your home network or any network you choose for database
updates. The Galaxy has a pleasant American speaking voice and you can pick
other languages like Mexican Spanish, Australian English, etc. The voices
sound almost human. LOL. Scanning is quick and easy just like on the
Summit. The Galaxy also has the inventory mode for those who like to buy in
bulk and have the item subtracted each time you scan an item. That's what I
liked about the Summit, but never got a chance to get around to using its
features. If relying on the sighted to get my unit updated wasn't an issue
for me, I would have stayed with the Summit. But if my Summit does not
sell, I will just keep it and travel with that. The Galaxy Will have too
much stored on it such as, clothing combinations, bedroom curtains and
linens, books, etc., and I would hate for it to be bumped or the scanner
damaged while out and about. The Summit is more compact and can fit in a
pocket or handbag. The Galaxy, not so much. But, both units can hang from
the neck with the supplied neck strap. I hope I answered some of your
curiosities. If you have any other inquiries, please feel free to write me
off list.

Regards,
Gadget Girl
