[Electronics-Talk] The Future of Product Accessibility

Hello Ray and everyone,

I recall that some landmark pieces of legislation passed when a
Republican was in the White House. The ADA is one such law. It was
passed during the George Bush Senior Tenure of his Presidency. There are
other examples that have occurred over the years. The Obama
Administration promised such mandates as a fully accessible Internet.
What happened? Nothing. I second what Ray said. It's a matter of
educating those who hold political office and not blaming them for
delays on accessibility issues. The blind community would be better
served if those worried about decreased accessibility to elictronic
devices found companies to create blind-accessible appliances and
devices or interfaces to enable us to use off-the-shelf appliances. It's
time to stop worrying and to take action!

coverage from start to finish.

Trump has publicly stated on the record that he favors less government regulation. Does this mean that he will push to repeal the Telecommunications Accessibility Act of 2010 that mandates that TV sets and cable boxes be made accessible to blind consumers? Will manufacturers be permitted to introduce ever more inaccessible electronic products and appliances because Trumpand the Republican Congress oppose governmental oversight and regulation? Trump has demonstrated his disdain for the disabled by publicly mocking a disabled reporter without apology. Do we blind consumers now face the prospect of taking a giant leap backwards in terms of product accessibility? This is a really frightening prospect. Who is going to protect our interests?
