[Electronics-Talk] Accessible Toothbrush app?

I think this ais a case of marketing gurus creating something out of
nothing. People have been brushing their teeth for perhaps hundreds of
years, and doing just fine.

Hi,
If accessible they could potentially be of a help as some of the higher end
models who have more than one mode I.E. regular, one for sensitive gums and
the like often have a button on the handle which when pressed by itself or
in conjunction with the power button can change variables such as length of
time for quadrants as another lister postulated or variance of pulsating
speed or strength. Often times these are only indicated by different
colored lights on the handle so while in the midst of brushing if you
accidentally hit that mode button you could be changing a setting without
being aware of it and that which changes while operating the unit would be
different than that which that button changes while not in use.
So if accessible it could yield a good amount of information. As to whether
one deems it necessary or even helpful is as individual as the needs of
different people but I wouldn’t say it's solely for the purpose of making
the manufacturer money. For if consumers somewhere didn't find it of use to
them they wouldn’t be willing to purchase it. So those who find it useful
will do so and those who don't will I'm sure use that which works best for
themselves too.
Robin

Maybe I messed it, but what is the purpose of the app for a toothbrush?

Why spend $150 for an electric toothbrush? I use a $15
battery-poweredPhilips Sonicare PowerUp toothbrush which is just as
effective as the more expensive rechargeable models. The advantage of a
battery powered toothbrush is that it does not require a charging base that
takes up counter space in your bathroom. I use a pair of rechargeable
Panasonic Eneloop AA batteries in my Sonicare and get about 4 weeks of usage
before the batteries have to be recharged. And I have two pairs of
rechargeable batteries, so while one pair is recharging, I can simply
install the other pair into the toothbrush, and I'm good to go again right
away. It's just totally ridiculous. Where are you supposed to keep all
those charging bases for those bathroom gadgets like electric toothbrushes,
electric shavers, hair trimmers and oral irrigators? Nobody has yet
invented a universal charging base that can charge all the bathroom gadgets
you own. In my case, it doesn't matter, because I have no counter space to
begin with in my tiny bathroom, and so rechargeable gadgets that require a
charging base are out of the question.

The Oral-B Pro 5000 SmartSeries.. has an app you download. And he app is
not accessible. At least, not yet.
So don't waste your time downloading it. It's not necessary. My dentist
said I needed to start using an electric toothbrush, so I just thought it
was cool to have a bluetooth toothbrush, and since it was a $150 item, which
dropped to $85 after it being on sale and a coupon added from Amazon.com, I
got it.
