[Electronics-Talk] iPhone battery was Re: iPhone 5S and IOS 11

Hello,

I wanted to add my 2 cents since I've done a handful of iPhone repairs and battery replacements for friends & family members. Apple's response for a while now has been, "NO, the batteries can not be replaced". As for can the task actually be done, yes a battery can be replaced in most iPhones (note I said most!) if and only if you have the right tools (which really make the job easy, and not the ones that come with the battery!), time, patience, steady hand, and enough eyesight to see the extremely tiny connectors and cables and screws inside the iPhone. The newer iPhones use adhesive and require special heating devices to warm up the device to open it up. As a disclaimer I always tell my family members that I'll try to replace the battery but that I can't guarantee success! A couple things always concern me, either breaking the screen, and having to replace it, damaging any cables, static killing the phone, a short circuit from cables connecting the wrong way. If I was one of these mall battery replacement kiosks I would absolutely have a disclaimer that I would not be responsible if the screen breaks but there might be some that would replace the screen if they break it and if they do then wow that's nice! Also remember the Samsung battery news a year ago! You don't want to just use any cheap battery from ebay or amazon, if you do you might get a Chinese battery and it might either not work, have short life, or might even get to hot or explode! If you have to absolutely replace your battery then find the best company to do it for you who has a good warranty! If it was me I would first check with my cell provider or place of purchase to see if I had a device protection plan on the device that would allow me to replace it and if not I'd be torn on rather replacing the battery or buy another phone but I know that's sometimes expensive unless you can make one of the cheap iPhone SE's work on your network!

I'll be happy to answer any other questions about battery and/or screen replacements.

Thanks,

I guess he was too elated that the cleaning was free to ask for a new
battery.
