I applied for a refi on my mortgage from Ditech. They told me that I would 
need to buy flood insurance. The area in which I live does not flood, even 
when we have heavy rain, which is seldom. But it is apparently a government 
requirement. I am so tired of the nanny state that this country has become.
To make this blindness related, the Ditech online mortgage application 
process is completely accessible.

I'll echo those sentaments, particularly the penalty portion for not having 
it and no, that doesn't apply to me. I have decent insurance.
