[Electronics-Talk] microwave needed

One thing to keep in mind about the Magic Chef talking microwave, which
sells for about $370 from Maxi-Aids is that it has no display screen. Of
course, if you are blind and single and will be the only person who uses it,
this will not be a problem. But if you have sighted family members in your
household who will also be using it, the lack of a display screen may be a
major source of annoyance and frustration. I recently purchased a
conventional Magic Chef 1.1 cubic foot microwave at Home Depot for about $70
which is similar in size and capacity to the talking model, but has more
features. Once the touchpad has been labeled with tactile markers on
strategic buttons like the Start/Stop, Clear, and numpad 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 0
keys, it is very easy to use by touch alone.

Hi,

I tried the Braille Microwave from Maxi-aids once and ended up returning it.
The only thing they did is put Braille on the touchpad. The problem still
is that once you push the buttons you do not know what the menus say and you
end up with a microwave that you cannot use. If you can afford it, the best
option is the talking one. It is nice and loud with a good volume control
even for those who are hard of hearing. Unfortunately I I could not afford
the talking microwave so I had to settle for an expensive model with dials.
It is an Avante 7 cubic feet 700 watts. The top dial controls the power
level from warm, defrost, low medium and high. The bottom dial is the timer
from seconds up to 15 minutes. It was approximately $80 from Amazon and
other online stores. Avante also had some larger microwaves with dials but
the smaller one fit my needs perfectly. I hope this helps.

Hi Sandra and anyone else interested,

My husband and I are going through the same thing with the loss of a
microwave. We bought one from Amazon only to have it come and not work,
so we're saving up and plan to buy the Braille one offered by Maxi Aids.
It's a larger one, which is what we need and since it's Braille, there
should be no issues with accessibility. If anyone has this one or knows
anything about it, would love to hear from you? Thanks and good luck to
you with finding one that suits your needs.
