Not too long after pressing the "strong" button.  Maybe 3 seconds?  If the
water is not yet hot enough, it will not start making the drink for a few
seconds or more.  Are you having a problem?  I find that if I do not follow
the below sequence, I run into problems.  It seems that the order in which
you turn it on, and open and close the K-cup holder makes a big difference.
My sequence is:

Put mug in place.
Check reservoir water level.  Fill if necessary.
Press the power button.
Open the K-cup holder, insert k-cup, and close the holder.
Press the "strong" button if desired.
Press the cup size.
