For those who may want to join gttsupport, here's my synopsis: It's similar
to Electronics Talk, but computer-related.

Addresses

Hi all. It's been brought to our attention that some of our members opt
to
share messages from the GTTSupport Group to other groups and lists to
which
they belong, and that those shares contain all the Header information
like
our names and email addresses. In the spirit of caring for one another
as
it relates to our privacy, we've decided to add one more item to the long
list of rules and guidelines. I know, I know, the rules and guidelines
were already long enough, however it's easier to deal with offenders when
it's clear which rule has been breached.

Please, if you wish to tell others about this group generally, or if you
think that other groups might benefit from something that's been posted
here, do so without breaching a fellow member's privacy. It's quick and
easy to share the subscription information along with a brief synopsis of
the group, and if possible it would be good to have you write a short
reason why someone else might be interested in GTTSupport.

So, here's what's been added, followed by the document in its entirety.

Added text:

   - Privacy is important to us all, so be sure to protect our individual
privacy by removing unnecessary contact information from forwarded
messages
to the GTTSupport list, or from this list to other Groups where you
might
   be active.

The complete Rules and Guidelines document as of December 19, 2019:
The Canadian Council of the Blind Get Together with Technology (GTT)
Discussion listPurpose and Rules

This discussion list supports and complements other GTT activities. It
gives members another forum where they can exchange ideas and ask
questions
about using technology as it relates to vision impairment and blindness.
It offers an opportunity for members to share their knowledge and skills
to
help others learn and stay current on information technology.

Revised December 19, 2019

Discussion List Rules and Guidelines

The following guidelines reduce clutter and make the list easier to use
with magnifiers and screen readers.

   - The SUBJECT field should be short and to the point. If the topic
   changes, change the Subject Line.
   - Please reduce the amount of text in each message by only leaving
your
first and last name at the bottom of your post, and quoting messages
to
which you are replying rather than including the entire message
string.
This makes it easier to read for those using screen readers,
magnification
software or the list in Digest mode.

Appreciation is assumed when benefits are derived. Please do not reply
to
a posted question simply to say you don't know the answer, or to thank
the
writer. All that does is create more traffic.

   - Any announcements or newsletters except those that directly relate
to
the CCB and/or its GTT program should not be posted to the list. Posts
from
other organizations pertaining to technology will be accepted on this
list
   with permission from the moderators.
   - If you want to forward a message, cut and paste the contents into a
   new message to reduce clutter.
   - Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This
is done for your protection. The message list might state that there is
an
attachment but in fact groups.io does remove them.

The following rules and guidelines ensure a considerate and respectful
exchange.

   - The list is a place of learning and respect. Please be polite and
patient with others. Iinsults or demeaning comments will not be
tolerated. It's okay to agree to disagree.
   - The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along
with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high
tech
swap shop... No goods or services will be bought or sold using this
forum.
As well, please no jokes, quotes, virus warnings, recipes, safety
tips, or
pleas to help your favourite project, should ever be posted to the
list.
   - Privacy is important to us all, so be sure to protect our individual
privacy by removing unnecessary contact information from forwarded
messages
to the GTTSupport list, or from this list to other Groups where you
might
   be active.
   - If you know a given subject is off topic, then don't post it. Simply
placing off topic in the subject line is not acceptable. Nor is
   cross-posting permitted.

Consequences for Rule and Guideline Infractions:

Infractions of the above will be dealt with by the Moderator Committee of
Kim Kilpatrick, Brian Bibeault and Albert Ruel in the following manner.

1. Someone from the Moderator Committee will request that the rule or
guideline infraction is stopped immediately.

2. If the person continues to break the rules and guidelines of the
list, a warning will be issued privately to the individual that Moderated
Status will be the next step.

If rules and guidelines continue to be broken the person will be placed
on
Moderated Status for two weeks, which means messages will be held for
Moderator approval prior to release to the list.

3. Should additional rules and guidelines be broken after the
conclusion
of Moderated Status the individual will be suspended from the list for 1
month.

4. Should additional rule and guideline infractions occur following a
one-month suspension the individual will be removed from the list
permanently.

The Get Together with Technology (GTT) was started by Kim Kilpatrick and
Ellen Goodman in Ottawa in 2011 and has since sprung up in cities across
Canada. Sponsored by the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB), the GTT
hosts
monthly meetings focusing on a rage of technology topics. These meetings
allow people who are blind or partially sighted to network and stay
abreast
of the continually changing world of adaptive technology.

Soon after the GTT groups started meeting, it was evident that other
channels of learning and information exchange were needed. Periodic
conference calls brought members together across the country while a GTT
blog, Twitter feed and Facebook page were developed on the social media
side. In response to a growing demand for individual help, some cities
also
introduced one-on-one peer coaching sessions.

Over time, members expressed a desire for a discussion list where they
could ask questions and share information relevant to adaptive technology.
To that end, the GTT discussion list was developed and launched in June
2017.

Thx, Albert
