Another thing that could work is something that my dad did for me years ago
when we had a microwave. He created a template with holes there the numbers
on the screen. All I had to do was to put the template on the screen & touch
the area where the holes were for the numbers. If the numbers are like a
push button phone, this really will work great. The template you would carry
with you @ all times when you are out so that you can get in to your
apartment after your day out.

I like where you are going here, but I would say that the transparent sheet
should be something that Reuben keeps and uses when he needs it.  That puts
the ownership on him for finding a solution and does not make the other
residents have to adapt to puff paint or other adaptations.   

I had a similar situation at work with a touchscreen copier/fax/scanner.  I
got a sheet of transparency paper and cut off one corner to be sure I
oriented the page correctly on the screen.  Then a coworker helped me align
bump dots with the touch points on the screen.  Fortunately, each screen's
options stay consistent.  This has worked great, and now with everyone being
careful of germ transfer with COVID, it gives me an extra protection.

Another approach would be to get some transparent labeling tape or a sheet
of transparent labeling plastic and just cut little squares out, one for
each number.  They would not even need to be brailled.  The print numbers
should show through, and cleaning off any adhesive after they are removed
should be simple.  Be sure, though, to determine that the numbers don't move
within the touchpad as can happen when it is a screen and not just a pad.

One possibility might be to use puff paint on the numbers on the touch
screen. I know this works for microwave ovens. That cold be the simplest
thing to do.

Hi list,

I'm looking at moving into a new apartment complex that has touch screen
keybads for the door locks to get into the units. Has anyone else
encountered this at their residence/ apartment? If so how did you
accommodate/ make it work. I know the complex is responsible for this, just
wondering what others have found as a work around/ fix. thanks
