[Electronics-Talk] Cost of AIRA

I got a lanyard as a freebie at the Seeing Eye reunion. It's a plastic holder on a cord, basically. It fits my iPhone OK, but it tends to move around when I'm walking, so I end up holding it with my hand most of the time anyway.
I've used AIRA while working my dog, waving my phone with my other hand. It's doable. Sometimes though, I have to stop and get AIRA to read a sign or something, then move on, and my dog doesn't like a lot of stops and starts. He also doesn't like when we're in an unfamiliar area and he feels like I don't know where we're going, and he doesn't recognize AIRA as a direction-giver the same way he does a person, reasonably enough.

Is there a phone lanyard that works well with the iphone 7S and AIRA? I would like to try the service, but I'm not ready to invest in their phone and glasses. And holding the phone while working with a dog might be a little much.

Hi David.
AIRA doesn't actually cost $99 a month anymore, at least not necessarily. I have the $30/month "introductory" plan, and, with the free 5 minutes with each call, it does fine for me.
I am used to doing without sighted help, and don't use AIRA every day, but, when I want it, it's handy to have. Now I've got that sighted person on hand whenever I want, the one everyone always imagines I've had all along. It doesn't always work, but mostly it does.

The student I was with from the guide dog school worked in that area and wanted training. The school could not justify making a 2 and a half hour trip for just one person. So I offered to go with her. I had no idea I had to cross that wide of a street. I remember thinking does this crossing ever end? Now that I think of it regarding veering, I am just happy the dog did not veer. Yes, for the help you get from the agents, it is worth the money. The only thing is, some can't afford the minimum $100 that one has to spend for that service.

Wow, you are much braver than me :-) maybe when I was younger and had a little bit more site. Now, no way.
That is totally awesome that you can do that. I just like the fact that they can tell you if you are veering. That’s worth the money right there.

And my opinion is no blind person can know 100% of the time when is the right time to leave right at the beginning of a walk cycle! Sometimes there is to many things going on in an intersection. My favorite is a driver running a red light making me think I now have the walk signal! A Aira agent is not supposed to guess if he can see that walk signal, mine did. That is what I wanted everyone to know.
