[Electronics-Talk] router extenders

I use Unifi Access points but cannot validate the accessibility of their Web Controller and it might be a little too technical for some. I like it because there is a setting that allows Unifi to watch for busy RF channels and move your WiFi devices from channel to channel. Enterprise grade Prosumer gear.

I have also heard good things about Google WiFi Mesh, which has 3 devices in the starter pack. 1 router, and 2 mesh extenders. the extenders also have google assistant built in. They are configured from your iPhone or android thru the google home app.

If no one can validate the accessibility of Unifi stuff, if any tech gurus want to test accessibility of Unifi, I can give them access to my Unifi Controller temporarily to mess around. Try to Email me personally off list!

Thanks,

The biggest problem with extenders is that they create a separate wifi
network, and your devices won't transparently switch between your
router's network and your extender's network. More expensive extenders
allow you to create a network by the same name, which is even more
confusing, since now all your devices would only see a single network,
but in fact there will be two separate networks, without transparent
switching between them, so your phone might be connected to the one in
the farthest? corner.

What you probably need to get is a wifi mesh network - this will allow
your devices to transparently switch between router and satellites. But
it comes with a router of its own. I recommend Netgear Orbi, but I've
also heard good things about Eero. Web interface of Orbi is fully
accessible, not sure about eero.
