Hey Drew,
I think I'm missing your question. Why don't you just use, or buy and use, an echo?
If you're asking which echo, I would say the echo dot along with a set of wired bookshelf or computer speakers.
I wouldn't pay a lot of attention to variations of audio quality among versions of the echo dot.
Another option is the echo studio, which is comparable to the apple HomePod. One Large speaker that sound good, but I think might be overkill for a bedroom appliance.
You can also use the Google home. I think the Echo is better for your use case.
