Tracy,
Most DVD players can be connected to a sound bar or other stereo, but it depends on your particular DVD player and sound bar. Many DVD players have the old RCA outputs for audio and video, and you could connect the audio to any RCA inputs that you have on your sound bar. Some DVD players and some sound bars may also have optical audio outputs and that could also work, but you would need an Audio Optical cable. In some cases, a DVD Player may have an HDMI output that may also carry sound, and your sound bar may also have more than one HDMI input such as for a DVD player. Connecting your DVD player using an HDMI cable to your sound bar may still give you audio even without a TV.
In some cases, cable boxes have an extra input so that one can switch between the signals coming into a cable box and a DVD player using the cable box remote. This could also provide an option.
Unfortunately, all of this is variable. It depends upon what is available on the DVD player, the cable box, and the sound bar that you have.
Best regards,
Steve Jacobson

Subject: [Electronics-Talk] TV replacement
Our TV stopped working a couple weeks ago. We hooked a soundbar to the
cable box, and it works just as well as the TV since we very seldom cared
about the picture anyway. The only thing we don't have is the DVD player.
Can a DVD be hooked to a soundbar without going through a TV? Or is there
some other way we can use the DVD player?
Otherwise, I guess we'll have to get some little TV. No more need for the
big screen in this house.
Tracy
