Yes, that’s what I tell my kids when we talk about 9/11, you truly didn’t know and couldn’t find out where anybody was. I’m not sure they grasp that.

Yes, and on nine eleven, if all that other stuff was available back then, 
cellphone service was non-existent, at least here, anyway.  All you got was

Amazon has a number of hand held radios.

If you want a larger one, they have one from Panasonic that I purchased one
for when the power is off.
They offer other models from Sony ans even have CCrane.
You will see a lot of older models which say they offer TV but that's out of
date information since TV is moved to a different frequency band.

I like the rest of you do miss my Sanjien (I might have mis-spelled that
brand) models.  I remember getting to my office with Verizon on North
Courthouse Road in Arlington, VA on 9/11.  The traffic was extremely slow
coming in close to 9:00AM and I was running late since I was supposed to
arrive by 8:30 but due to the traffic, ... and well we know why but we found
out afterwards about the plane which crashed into the pentagon which was
directly en route to my work location.  I heard about the  crash into the
Twin Towers but initially they reported it as a small plane ... little did
we know.   My work location was about a mile from the pentagon and a couple
of co-workers thought it was another one of the taller buildings in
Arlington, VA where the ABC affiliate TV station was and it was then owned
by USA Today.  Alas, it was the pentagon.

All this to say that I relied heavily upon that little radio I had to listen
to to local TV coverage and of course when I got into my cubicle, I listened
additionally and by then reports were being aired about the third jet.

One can stream obviously via an iPhone or similar but it was just easier to
press a couple of buttons on the radio.

Someone mentioned that there are other sources for TV broadcasts.  However,
many are delayed and many simply won't be available during major power and
internet infrastructure outages.

I do appreciate it though, that we do have more flexibility in how we
receive radio and TV broadcasts.

I have a small radio I like a lot, but I'm having trouble finding anything
like it anymore.  I think it's a Sony.

It's just like the transistor I had as a kid.  No presets, lights, or any
other battery-draining silliness.  Just a volume dial on one side and a
station dial and AM/FM switch on the other, with a speaker in between.

It's small enough to fit in my pocket, and loud enough to hear easily.

I've tried buying other small radios, but they all seem to have flashing
lights or something that kills the battery in a week or two.

Does anyone know of a simple, old-fashioned radio like the one I'm so fond
of?
