Yes, quite annoying!  I have discarded some of that meaningless verbiage in

I know that the DirectTV streaming box does offer local channels.  Not sure
about the other service you mentioned.

tv has local stuff for my area like WSAZ news and the like. I'm unable to
figure out if hulu live tv and sling and direcctv stream have it.
