[Electronics-Talk] renewed vs. refurbished computers.

I'd think these terms would all pretty much be interchangeable, and you'd want to clarify what's meant by the term used by the company where you're purchasing the computer from. Also, as others have said, check out the return policy as well.

I have actually seen Renewed and Refurbished with longer warrantees so always check out that information.

If Amazon is backing the product, most of the time, they will allow one to return it within 30 days as well.

The computer referred to here was likely just reimaged and serviced but not totally refurbished.  It's unfortunate that the service tech informed you that there were no drivers available anymore.  This may have, however, been a management influenced response because if this was from a big box store, they want to sell you a new computer, appliance or whichever they can claim is no longer serviceable.  One can generally reinstall Windows and there are means to find applicable software drivers.

Renewed and/or refurbished pretty much means the same thing. Renewed seems to be Amazon's way of seeing refurbished without actually having the bad word of refurbished. Normally these products probably only have a 30 day warranty.

There are some renewed Del laptop computers on Amazon.What is the difference between renewed and refurbished?When I got a windows 7 upgraded to 10 refurbished lap top from a non profit organization and it crashed with no sound atech explained what it means to get a refurbished computer.It means it can be turned on before leaving the place it is being sent by, doesn't mean software or programs are working to their optimum, they could be ready to crash at a moments notice practically, it just means the computer can be turned on with no problems. Oh, because it was a windows 7, there were no audio drivers available anymore to fix the problem according to the MS help desk and a tech at a computer store.
