[Electronics-Talk] For what it’s worth, HD Radio

HD radio has been a colossal flop.  It never caught on, and few
companies make radios with HD capability.  Remember when Insignia
offered an HD radio with voice prompts to make it blind accessible?  It
lasted on the market only six months before it was abruptly
discontinued, never to be revived or heard from again.  It is a common
misconception that the HD stands for high definition,as it does for HD
television,  creating the false impression that HD radio delivers
superior sound quality over regular radio, but it turns out that the HD
doesn't stand for anything, and the initials were adopted to bam boozle
gullible consumers into buying HD radios by creating a mystique that
they were somehow better than regular radios.  With its compressed
bandwidth, the sound quality on the HD frequencies is actually inferior
to the sound quality on the regular radio frequencies.  But I guess
consumers were smarter than the radio manufacturers gave them credit
for, and few HD radios have been  sold.

A local station on FM can have three or four programs going at once! One station might play rock, country, comedy and sports talk. Another station might play country where the latest country songs are played on the main channel for all to hear but the other streams might play classic country, and outla country. In my example, you would only hear today’s country on your present radio. The other two streams would only be heard with an HD radio. Since HD radio is digital radio, you won’t be bothered with static and other noise! You will have clear noise free listening! Go tohttp://www.hdradio.com and you can learn more there! You can hear examples of something playing in analog compared to HD radio. Look up HD radio on youtube and you can learn even more!
