Here are a couple pointers I use when accessing VLC.

When you open the program, hit alt to go in to the menu bar. You can hit alt plus L to go right to the play menu.

Arrow down to title. It's a submenu, so right arrow to expand it.

Jaws doesn't read the menu titles, so I have to hit enter on each one to see if the movie starts. It's the same with TV episodes. Generally, the movie is menu item one or two, though sometimes you have to keep arrowing and entering until you find it. tedious, but doable.

Once the movie starts, hit alt plus A for the audio menu. This will place you on the audio track submenu. All JAWS reads to me is languages in the audio track menu. But if you're looking for an audio description track, or a commentary or something like that, the main movie audio track is first. You can arrow through and press enter on any others labeled English, to see if you get AD or commentary.

Now, I probably don't have the latest build of this program, so my steps might be slightly off, but I hope this helps you at least get started with it.
