[Electronics-Talk] New TV

Pete, I wish I could change cable companies. Spectrum sounds better. But I
can't. Can you say local monopoly? Annd I haven't heard great things about
the phone company alternative. And I'm not ready to "cut the cord".

Hello Tracy and everyone,
That cable company sounds like the one portrayed in an AT&T Fiber
commercial the one where a mother on vacation is trying to sing her child to
sleep over Zoom and the connection goes crazy. It's chocked up to slow
upload speed. As the mother sings her voice slows down much like a record
player that was turned off before the needle was removed from the record.
Other sounds of a bad connection can also be heard. We always crack up when
we hear that commercial.
We've used Spectrom for many years and have never had the kind of
Internet connection issues portrayed in that television commercial. Given
the fact that like Mary you need a stable connection for working remotely a
change of Internet provider is in order. Might I also suggest investing in a
tv so you'll have one that works and gives you what you need. Here's hoping
you can work things out. All the best.

Hi Pam.
We connect the audio output from the cable box to the inputs for the
soundbar, and there it is. Surprisingly simple.
The reason we need a TV is pretty stupid. We have an old cable box. When
Altice pushes out an update, it crashes our box and we lose cable, phone and
internet for anywhere from a few hours to a whole day. I need the internet
for work, so this is a real problem. You might think Altice would notify
customers with old boxes that a new one was required, but no, of course they
don't.
I wish I'd known the cable guy could bring his own TV. He could have fixed
the whole thing when he came out. But again no, he has to come back when we
have a TV. No doubt we will be charged for both visits.
But we do have a small TV, for which we lost the remote, but my husband has
tracked down a replacement. So that should do the trick, unless we decide
we want something better later. At least the cable guy will be able to give
us a new box, and we'll stop losing our internet. If I could figure out
how, I'd charge Altice for my lost work hours. But no, it doesn't work like
that.
And we have to somehow make sure the guy who comes knows how to set up the
accessibility. Altice used to have a special accessibility tech person who
could ensure that and make it go smoothly, but now when we call they have no
clue.

Since you are already using your cable with a sound bar, what is the problem
that you need the cable guy to come? If you do, call them up and ask if
they bring a tester TV in the truck with them. I know about those, because
one time, when we were having trouble with our cable, the guy was having a
hard time figuring out what the problem was. So, he went out to the truck,
and brought in a small TV and hooked it up to the cable box, and determined
that the problem was our television. By the way, how do you use the sound
bar with the cable? I don't have one of those, but I am investigating them.
Pam.
