[Electronics-Talk] Q&A on Amazon

I don’t think that the email address works anymore, but, if you start the normal customer support process, at some point, there is an option that says accessibility. If you follow that link, there are three different options—chat, email (via a form), or phone call.

If people really think that trying to contact the accessibility email first is the best option, then perhaps we could put together a list of the biggest problems, which would of course be accompanied by please test for other problems. I could write a whole book about all of the problems, but I thinking that dumping all of that on someone on the other end of the accessibility contact would not help—too much information at one time, and I doubt that stuff like, “You cannot put an ARIA role on an element that does not have a tabIndex and then put a normal anchor tag inside of it” would make much sense (if that information made absolutely no sense to you, that is the point).

I’ve never sent messages to that. I always call on the phone to get a live person to help. Most of the time, it works. Pam.

I also wonder if they still have their accessibility support department. In utter frustration, I tried sending a message to their accessibility support when I absolutely could not buy something, and I never got an answer. This happened twice. I hate talking on the phone, after forty years of jobs that required a lot of phone work, so I try to do that kind of thing electronically. I also have a record of it that way.

Excuse me if this is a stupid question, but how does one report problems like this to the NFB?

Chris,

This is my sentiments too! Did the listers who had issues bring it to the NFB National Office's attention?

You might try notifying the NFB office if you have not already.

I am battling my own access isues now.

Zoom made updates and significant changes to the layout of their desktop app and web interface.

I am currently having severe issues with zoom.

I am a subscriber and they have made some new features up in the desktop software that tricks jaws up. Its very difficult to use because some of the features such as opening the scheduling calendar by default when you schedule meetings is not reading much with jaws and then you get pop up boxes about new features and its hard to get out of them.

Amazon comes to NFB conventions regularly and It was my impression they had worked with NFB on some things although I do not know the details.

Also, I think you said it well. We need to work with companies first and attempt to resolve barriers.

Lawsuits should be a last resort!

Take care.

Ashley

This raises a few questions in my mind:

1. How do you know the NFB isn't doing anything?

2. When did this issue Pop up?

3. What have you done to notify the NFB about the problem? What about Amazon?

This is just me, but I don't think a law suit should be the first card played by the blind. I think bringing the issue up with Amazon and try to resolve the issue before going to the lawyers an courts. I think this just paints blind organizations in a poor light. Of course, I'm not opposed to lawsuits if everything else has failed.

Since Amazon is now the world's largest merchant, why isn't the NFB getting involved and demanding that their web site be made more blind friendly or else they will take legal action? Or are they afraid of big bad Jeff Bezos?
