[Electronics-Talk] Software that converts kindle books into word docs?

There used to be a program that did this, but since amazon updated the format and security on their kindle books some years back, that program doesn't work.

I heard some time ago that this process was possible; can someone share how that is done and if the original book remains in Kindle format?
I want to have a book and keep both formats, if possible.
