Hi All,

Our GE Ultra front load Washer Model #GFW850SPN2RS arrived early last week.
As expected, there are pros and cons.

If you want to do a load of wash with any of the different cycles, just turn
the dial until it clicks into position as the cycle you want. There is room
for some braille labels around the dial, or you could create a cheat sheet
if your memory is like mine and not as good as it used to be. If you are
fine with all of the preset settings for that cycle, you are good to go. It
is as easy as put your laundry in, pour your soap in, tap the start button,
make sure the dial is pointing to the cycle you want and then press the
start button.

The power and start buttons and the touch panel are very sensitive. It is
easy to activate something by mistake. If you hear an activation beep when
you were not trying to activate something, or you are concerned that you
have not set something correctly, you can turn the machine off and then back
on to reset everything to the default settings for the cycle.

You cannot put any type of labels or tactile marks on the touch panel. The
slightest touch will activate them. It is very easy to accidently activate
the buttons more than once. There is a way to lock the panel. I need to
learn more about this.

There is a defined lip around the touch panel, but there are no tactile
marks indicating where each button is located. There is some room around
the touch panel to add braille labels to help you locate the buttons and
know what they do, but you would have to abbreviate the label content in
order to get them to fit. I think I am going to label these buttons a
through m and have a cheat sheet to what each one is.

As expected, the SmartHQ app is not totally accessible. I can find out many
of the current settings for the current cycle and how much time is left
before the load of wash is done. I did have to get help setting it up. It
appears that you can only have one mobile device associated with the
account. My husband originally had it set up on his phone, and then I
signed in under his account on my phone and once I pared the washer with my
phone, it took the washer away from his phone. I'm not sure if we just are
not doing something correct with setting this up, or if it is how the
developer wanted the app to work. The app alerts you when there is 5
minutes left, and when the load of wash is done. I really like this
feature.

That is all for now.

Annette
