[Electronics-Talk] Tapping the Burner

Good afternoon everyone,

Perhaps he has diabetic neuropathy which can effect one's sense of touch. If not it's just a matter of tapping the burner until you feel heat to orient your pan.

You have trouble feeling heat from a burner just by holding your hand over it?

	This is straight out of an NFB Kernel Book called Tapping the Charcoal. In the article by the same name Dr. Jernigan described how he would briefly touch pieces of charcoal in a grill to determine if all of the coals were hot. I've done this myself. It works. A quick touch of a piece of charcoal or an area of a flat top stove will allow you to know if the burner is hot or cold. In addition you can locate where the burners are and determine how hot they are. And since our kitchen sink is near the stove if I need to cool off my fingers a quick dousing from the faucet does the job nicely.

	As others pointed out if you turn a burner on when it starts to heat up you need only slide your pan over the heating burner to place the pan directly on it. Thank you Dr. Jernigan!

Peter Donahue who knows how to tap a burner to gage its temperature and to properly place cookware on them.

Well, yeah, I understand the aspect of where you feel he, that’s where you put the pot,  but I was just wondering about looking at and trying to determine the burners one from another before turning them on.
