Hi.
You could try one of the talking digital multimeters, like this one:
ANENG Pocket Multimeter Voice Broadcast Electrical Tester 4000Counts Ohm
meter for AC/DC
Voltage,Current,NCV,Resistance,Continuity,Capacitance,Diodes,Temperature
Meansurement,Volt Meter for Automotive: Amazon.com: Tools & Home

For that, just push the big button until it says it's on, and then touch
either end of the battery with the leads. It'll say dc voltage
measurement 1.61 volts, etc. A dry cell AA or AAA is considered good if
it has 1.5 volts. Voltage does drop on these as capacity drains, so this
is a reasonable way to determine their state. If it's rechargeables,
Lithium don't really have a voltage drop so that's probably out, but Ni
MH do, but their max volt is 1.2v so if you have one that's at 1.38v
it's a really good one.
Caution do not do the leads on either end of a battery test with the dmm
set to dc current measurement! Set it to dc voltage measurement or just
do it in the default mode it has when you first turn it on. When you set
current measurement the battery will dump all its power into the dmm as
fast as it can go until the dmm is toast or the battery is, or worse.
