[Electronics-Talk] accessible CPAP machine for sleep apnea

Hello everyone,

I use both a BYPAP which is a step up from a CPAP machine and an
oxygen concentrator. Usually my technicians set things up for me. All I need
do is turn the machines on and off each evening and morning. Some of these
devices have apps one can install on their smartphone or tablet that allow
one to control the machine's patient functions and track their sleep
quality. Getting technicians to install these apps and pare them with your
machinery seems to be where things fall apart. My oxygen concentrator does
not have an app but the BYPAP does. These apps would be a great way for a
blind person to control these devices provided they work with Talkback and
Voiceover. I'm not sure if there are ways to control these devices via the
Web making this control possible from a desktop. Happy Easter everyone.

If you are happy with what you have, I'm not trying to change your mind.
I'm also not saying that one can't get buy without an accessible CPAP
machine. I mentioned several other settings besides air flow that one might
want to adjust such as whether you want the machine to "Ramp" up to full
pressure, whether you want to have the machine start and stop based upon
whether you are breathing into your mask, and also the level of humidity in
addition to turning it on or off. Especially if one is new to CPAP
machines, you won't know immediately what your preferences might be. One
certainly would not need to change the air flow. In some cases, you can get
the technician to set some of these options for you when you get the
machine, and if you need to change an option, you can have whomever does
reading to help with it. One can certainly get by.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

I left something out. The temperature for the water chamber is changed with
the turning of the power button on my machine. Sorry about that.

But I still don't understand why one would want to adjust the settings! The
sleep techs are the ones who know how much airflow is needed.

The last two CPAP machines we have had here has the humidifier as one of a
number of options, and it is a lot trickier to set. The chances are pretty
good that when you need to replace yours that it won't be as simple to turn
the humidifier on or off. As I have described, there might be some options,
but one needs to experiment to get a pattern down. I have not checked to
see if the apps that let you get your sleep results can change settings.
That might be another approach to this.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

That's how mine works. If I want to warm the water in the tank, I turn it
one way and it heats up.
That's why I'm wondering why one needs an accessible CPAC machine! All of
the calibrations are done by a sleep technician.

One doesn't exist that I know of, but mine has a raised control to turn it
off and on, and the doctor programs the different air pressures he may need.

I am looking for any information on accessible CPAP machines as my partner
was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. We would like to research it a little
before requesting a certain model.

Best regards,
