*Regular Monthly Meeting Minutes *
*October 17, 2021*
1. Call to order
· Meeting was called to order by President Jannik at 6:02 PM
2. Roll call
· All board members were present
· Guests: NFBF President Paul, Jorge, and Tampa Chapter President
Miranda
3. The Pledge was recited by Jannik
4. Secretary’s report: Sewar Quneibi
· At the convention’s business meeting dues were collected and we
currently have 17 members and supporters, and 12 official members. We hope
to continue growing. In addition, elections took place and officers were
selected. President: Jannik Pesch, Vice President: Z’Leah Liburd,
Secretary: Sewar Quneibi, Treasurer: Meliora Hatcher. The marketing
Committee was formed, consisting of Grace Patterson, Elijah Grant, and
Thomas Dukeman.
· Currently, a flyer has been created and the Secretary and marketing
committee are working on distributing it to college campuses to recruit
blind students.
· Three social medias are set up: Facebook, Instagram:
blind_students, tiktok: blind_students_fl
· To conclude we are currently working on a logo design for FABS
Motion to accept made by Tashara. Motion seconded by Z’Leah. All were in
favor.
5. Floor was open for discussion
· Z’Leah wanted to mention that the Facebook currently has 40
followers and Instagram has nine. Paul was happy to hear that!
6. Treasurer’s report: Meliora Hatcher
· At the convention:
50/50 raffle was held were $220 was raised, $110 was won by Elijah and $110
was FABS’s profit.
Donut fundraiser raise $72
Donations: $160
Membership fees $170
Final balance: $622
Motion to ept by Elijah. Motion seconded by Sewar. All were in favor
7. Floor was opened for discussion.
· Jannik announced that PayPal, Cash App, and other apps are in the
process of being set up.
· Paul also announced that there is currently an additional estimated
$2000 in the FABS bank account that was raised from the previous group of
students but is now for the current group.
8. New members (Tashara Cooper, Tom Dukeman <thomasdukeman at outlook.com>,
and Yassir Boborquez <Jose.yassir.bohorquez at gmail.com>) introduxed
themselves.
9. The treasurer’s report was corrected.
· Treasurer Meliora called for the floor to correct the previously
mentioned balance.
There is a total balance of $512
Motion to amend by Elijah. Motion seconded by Sewar. All were in favor.
10. A potential new member, James, was introduced.
11. James explains what Blind Inc is.
· Blind Inc is a NFB Structure discovery training center. It includes
classes on travel, cooking, sports etc.
· Camille describes it as a Highly intense deeply immersive
experience. During your stay you are living in a dormitory off campus where
you carry out tasks on your own, such as cooking, cleaning, and commuting.
Whether you are completely blind or not you carry out the remaining in
shades.
12. President Jannik asked if there were any questions regarding list
serve and WhatsApp group chat
13. Paul announces that a logo needs to be approved.
· Jorge adds on that a logo will be created for FABS to speed up the
approval process and remain on brand.
· A flyer will need an approval as well.
14. Constitution is reviewed by President Jannik.
· Paul addresses that the constitution needs to be sent for approval.
15. The upcoming scholarship, which opens this December, is discussed
16. Tashara recounts her experience winning the state scholarship.
· She recalls having a wonderful time as she was paired with a
mentor.
17. Announcement that there is a NFBF and NABS meeting at 8 PM EST.
· The NFBF meeting will now be held over zoom.
18. It was acknowledged that FABS T-shirt is still for sale for $20
19. Adjournment
· Motion to adjourn meeting was made by Jannik. Motion was seconded
by Z’Leah. All were in favor.
· Meeting was adjourned at 7:20 PM
