FABS Monthly Meeting Minutes

March 17, 2024

The meeting started at 6:12PM

Role Call at 6:13 PM by Z’Leah

Pledge at 6:14 PM by Meli

First timers: Adrian, he is going to the University of Miami and his
favorite color is blue.

Abi, she is going to the University of Florida and her favorite is green

Treasurer’s Report at 6:16 PM by Meli

Starting balance: $2911.27

Ending balance: $2,881.27

Christian motions the treasurer’s report; Elijah seconds; All were in favor

Note: Jose has accepted an invitation to the Leadership Seminar in
Baltimore, MD and has requested a reimbursement of $200 to cover flight
costs.

Meli makes a motion to refund Jose $200 towards his flight to Baltimore,
MD. Elijah seconds; all were in favor.

Z’leah purchased the hugging hands emoji pillow out of pocket, the item
that FABS decided to donate to the Washington Seminar auction. She has
asked for an reimbursement of $42. Jose made a motion to refund Z’Leah
money towards the hugging hands emoji pillow; Christian seconded;

All were in favor.

Secretary’s Report at 6:25 PM by Elijah

 The secretary’s report from last month’s meeting was sent to the FABS
mailing list. Christian motions the secretary’s report as emailed, Seconded
by Jose; All were in favor

6:26 PM Announcement about a presentation on Menus 4 All during the Florida
Statewide Chapter meeting at 8PM

Final reminder at 6:27 PM in regards to the NFB scholarship. Info can be
found at nfb.org/scholarships

Announcement at 6:28 PM about the Kenneth Jernigan Convention Scholarship

   Deadline is April 15

   Must be an active NFB member, blind or sighted

   Must be your first time attending convention.

Fundraising idea to members at 6:31PM: RS Games: would have people pay to
play games on the RS games application. A prize was discussed for the
winner; 25% of the profits or 50% of the profits. Nothing was completely
decided; would need to be discussed at a closed board meeting. The topic
will be discussed further at the next meeting.

Announcement at 7:10 PM about the Gold Star Staff Program

   -

   BISM introduces the gold star program, a program that provides blind and
   low vision students with a four week work-based learning experience as
   either a instructor, mentor, or leader to other students.
   -

   You would be teaching other students nonvisual skills that will be
   useful in become a blind professional, braille, technology, orientation and
   mobility, independent living, and job readiness.
   -

   Program will take place in Baltimore, Maryland. You do not need to live
   in Maryland.
   -

   interview will take place on zoom after April 1st.
   -

   Pay will be between $3000 to $3500.
   -

   You must undergo a comprehensive background check.
   -

   Program dates: July 13 to August 9th, including weekends.
   -
