There. with some strange punctuation, I've got both words to be
double-syllabled.
Car-Pay Dee-em also comes up in literature. And it is translated:
seize the day.
But the poem I remember is by that horrid Anglican minister Herrick
who liked things other than the Holy Scriptures and living for the Lord.
So his use of "seize the day" was that young people should make the
most of their time--and he wanted them to do things that would run
counter to the orderly family lives that they should have been subject to.
So it's my understanding that "seize the day" sometimes means to get
busy and let down your hair and do stuff your mother told you not to.
