[Faith-talk] Women in the Pulpit

Why, Linda, how about the verse that says: I suffer not a woman to teach.
That's obviously in the context of the gathered church. There are
good reasons in scripture why women are not really called to
elder-ship or leader-ship positions.
It has nothing to do with the worth or worthiness of a woman. Many
are far better-equipped than their male counter-parts. But the
Bible, which we believe to be Divinely written and inspired, gives a
hierarchy, which, I for one, would not be comfortable to gainsay.
Let the women keep silence in the church--I'm not quoting it quite
rightly. i don't have a Bible program I can consult on the fly.

Some of our women, here, are preparing for ministry or are already in
it. I know we won't all agree on these things. And normally, I
don't say much to this issue, because some folks I really like are
involved in positions that I would never aspire to--nor would we see
a woman in those positions in our circle.

The headship issue in the home is the same. But I won't get into
that. I do think there are exceptions regarding what is permissible
in the home. And wise women want to keep their place. sometimes
that can be a tight-rope.
As I say, I won't get into that one.

Carry on, list. I'll try to be quieter.
Penny.
